Activities Art Club: This club runs in sessions for the Fall, Winter and Spring. on Mondays. This class is currently filled but you can preregister for the Winter Session by emailing Elizabeth Blaufuss at bluesculptor@hotmail.com Banking: Crown Hill Branch provides a free bank account for any student who signs up for banking at North Beach. Bank days are on Thursdays during lunch. Students bring their deposits to our "bank" and the parent volunteers (banking ladies as the kids call them) collect the deposits, enter the information into a computer and take everything up to the bank. Students receive statements every quarter and can make withdrawals at the bank branch. Every time the students make a deposit they can earn prizes provided by Washington Mutual. Comic Club: Started by students, this new program introduces kids to the exciting world cartooning. Cartoon club is open to second through fifth grade students. Chess Club: Every Thursday after school the library is transformed into a chess parlor with rows of chess boards ready for eager players. Chess master, Nori Mihara is on hand for coaching, questions and instruction. Skill level is not important as beginners can improve their game while advanced players have an opportunity to play a variety of competitors. Chess club is open to grades 2nd through 5th. Chorus: North Beach has a wonderful singing and performance group called the Shining Stars Chorus. Mary K McNeill will direct the chorus this year. She has a large repertoire of songs including folk songs from the U.S. and around the world. The chorus meets from September 24 - December 12; Wednesdays 8 - 8:45 am for ages kindergarten through second grade and Fridays 8 - 8:45 am for ages third through fifth grades. For more information contact Mary K at nonsenstir@gmail.com. Clay Animation Network - Students of all ages can learn how to animate their own movies through the "Clay Animation Network." For more information check out www.cancancancan.com. Classes will be held Fridays, beginning September 26 for nine weeks from 3:15 - 5:15 pm. Cost is $185 per students ages first through fifth grade. Dance Club: The Dance Club is brought to you by Kathy Overhaus. This diversified program combines ballet, tap, and jazz all into one exciting and educational class. Class is held on Wednesdays from 3:15 - 4:15 pm. The cost is $45 per month and is currently open to ages kindergarten through second grade. Children get hands-on experience with exciting science experiments. The current dates are October 7 - December 12. The cost is $94 per student of any grade level. For more information check out: www.madscienceregistration.com Drama Club: This year's Drama Club is brought to us by the Taproot Theatre Company. "our teaching artists will inspire your students with an acting curriculum that will delight and challenge them. The drama sessions will focus on acting skills, team building, improv and scene work. There will by two sessions that run from September 22 - December 15. One on Mondays, 3:20 - 5:20 pm and one on Wednesdays, 3:20 - 5:20 pm. The cost is $85. To sign up call 206-529-3668 or email studio@taproottheatre.com Student Council: The Student Council serves as a student government. The officer positions are open to 3rd, 4th & 5th grades. But second and third graders elect representatives from each class to attend the meetings. Student Council provides students with a voice in decisions made that affect their school. During the monthly meetings, the officers and classroom representatives discuss ways to implement various projects that concern the student body. Student Council teaches self-advocacy, democracy and responsibility. Since the officers and classroom representatives are all elected by the student body, the children learn about the elections and campaigns as well. |
