Week of March 1st, 2010
Class News
I was out last week with a bad bronchitis. Things went well with the substitute, but if things looked a bit different that is why.
This is an exciting week because we are starting our work on A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This week for homework I want the kids to read through the script and decide what part they would like to play in our production. Please help them by reading through the play with them and discussing what part they would like to play. Think about the number of lines they will need to memorize, the amount of time on stage, how much time they will have to devote to memorizing balanced with other activities etc.
After they have read the play and decided what part they want to play the students need to write me a letter telling me what part they want to play. The letter must detail what part they want and why they want it, and list three reasons why they would be the best person for the part. This is really a persuasive writing activity. I have attached a letter that models what I would like them to do and we have gone over it in class. The letter is due on Friday. This is the only homework that needs to be turned in this week. We will take a week off from spelling because I really want them to focus on writing a strong letter.
Parent Requests
I am in need of a parent to help straighten up the classroom library. If you can help please let me know. I would also like parent voluteers to help with costumes and plots for the play. Please let me know if you would be interested. Thanks!
