Thistle Theater Field Trip

Please remember that permission slips with $5 (checks made to Thistle Theater) and 75cents bus fare (if your student is 6 or older) are due this Friday, March 12. We will go to the puppet show on Wednesday, March 17 at 9:30 and return around noon. Have your child dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. So far, 3 parents have said they can come along as chaperones. Parents need to send $5 plus are responsible for their own $1.75 bus fare.

Science Update

Thank you to all the families who adopted some Science animals. Be sure to keep the lids on the snails, they are tricky escape artists! The rest of the animals were returned to the Science Warehouse on Friday after school.

Our next Science unit which is called Wood will arrive after Spring Break. Be looking for permission slips and requests for 2-3 parents to walk in North Beach Woods (across the street from our school). If you have any small scraps of wood leftover from building/home repair projects or would be willing to ask for scraps from a local lumber yard, we will need them for an end of unit building project.

Guest Teacher this week

Both Ms. Lorang and Ms. Marquez (plus other North Beach Staff) will be attending a 2-day Special Ed. Conference on Thursday and Friday this week. Ms. Pat Lorenz (she was in Room 2 back in Feb.) will be our Guest Teacher plus Ms. Holkup. Please remind your students to "do their best to be their best".

Ms. Bowers and Ms. Lorang are requesting that families send in brown grocery bags to help collect composting. In Room 2 we compost all napkins, paper towels and uneaten snack. We use the brown grocery bags to hold the composting. Thanks for helping us keep North Beach "green".

Volunteering for March

It's easy to volunteer - let Ms Lorang know you'll be there either by phone, email, or signup outside the classroom and just turn up!

Volunteer schedule for March

Math Changes

Our goal with math groups was to better meet the needs of the students. However, as the semester comes to an an end and after evaluating the current system we have concluded that this approach was not as effective as we'd hoped. Beginning February 1st we will no longer have students move between classes for math; their math needs will be met in their own classroom. Rest assured that each teacher will meet the needs of your children accordingly in their own classroom.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact your childs teacher. Thanks for your support.

Reading Group Update

We now have Reading twice a day! Once from 9:30-10:00 when Ms. Lorang works with most of the class and the Readers have free read time. Then from 12:50- 1:30 we break into Reading groups. Ms. Lorang works with most of the class, Ms. Butcher takes a group of combined Room1 and Room 2 students and Ms. Holkup works with a small group. If parents have any questions about Reading always feel free to call, email or talk to Ms. Lorang.

Room Parents

Thank you to Dana Tramountanas (Eleanor's Mom), Jessica Lucio (Cole's Mom) and Erika Hermanson (Claire's Mom) for being our Room Parents. Look for emails from them regarding our classroom events throughout the year.
