SPS Closure Plans Move Forward
Superintendent of Seattle Public Schools (SPS), Brent Jones, released the district's latest plan to address the budget crisis today. The first step is closing four K-5 Elementary schools across the city and consolidating each of those schools’ populations into one specific, nearby school (to "keep communities together"). 

North Beach is on the list and the plan states our school will be “Consolidating with Viewlands Elementary at Viewlands” starting for the 25-26 school year.  There are still so many things we do not know. We have so many questions. We are sad, angry, uncertain, and disheartened by the constant back and forth and changing plans the district has released over the past year. This fight is far from over and nothing is certain. Today’s announcement is just the first step in a lengthy process of review and approval or rejection of this proposal.

What Does This Mean for North Beach?
November - December the District will conduct public hearings for each proposed school closure sight and provide final recommendations followed by public review.
January 2025 is the anticipated final Board Action (voting)

While we may feel disheartened, we cannot give up. Let us continue to raise your voices to our elected officials, continue to fight for fully funded education, and continue to advocate for our children and the future of public education!
Fund SPS is a group of concerned Seattle Public Schools parents committed to advocating on behalf of all Seattle kids. We stand in opposition to SPS’ plan for mass closures because it will not provide “well-resourced schools” or solve the budget crisis the district faces. Our District is in crisis, and the lack of accountability and financial oversight to address the entire budget deficit by the administration and the School Board is unacceptable. Our children deserve a stable, transparent, well-resourced, and safe educational environment.

Fund SPS is committed to providing tools to parents to help create the lasting, sustained outreach necessary to fix school funding in Washington State. Our schools belong to the community, and it is both our right and duty to ensure that the district provides the resources necessary to support every child's development. Our children's future depends on a well-funded education system. That’s why we’re also focused on advocating with the Washington State Legislature to fully fund public education.
